Cruising among the mangroves
We had booked ourselves on the Lady Douglas luncheon river cruise in search of crocodiles. It was one of those calm cloudy days and the water was almost glassy as we chugged along – collecting lunch from On the Inlet restaurant on the way past. This vessel is owned and operated by John and Jenny Edmondson and at $40, the cruise was a bargain considering the tempting buffet spread – prawns, roast chicken, salads, an antipasto platter, fresh fruit. While our crocodiles hunt yielded only one juvenile croc (which I missed!), it was a leisurely trip through the mangrove channels.
We head out from the marina past numerous boats. That's On The Inlet restaurant on the right.
We collect our lunch from the restaurant and head out past the mangroves.
It's a dull, still day and the water is like the proverbial millpond.
A tempting lunch is spread out and we anchor among the mangrove trees to enjoy it. After our cruise we did some local exploring and drove up a steep hill near the township and looked down over Four Mile Beach. We stopped again during our descent and as I was filming the tall trees in a gully, a kookaburra obliged with its raucous laugh.
Next – we head north through sugar country to Daintree and also check out the tropical fruit >> |
